K- 8th Academic Information

Academics at Good Shepherd

At Good Shepherd, we begin with a traditional foundation that includes abundant opportunities for reading, frequent writing, meaningful classroom discussions, and a strong commitment to mathematics emphasizing both math concepts and problem-solving skills.  We build on this foundation with projects and hands-on experiences that bring lessons to life as they encourage independence, confidence, and self-discovery.   Students in all grades actively engage in a variety of learning experiences from a month-long study of China and its culture in second grade to a science fair, Shakespeare fair, and more for our older students.  Our year ends with a school-wide study of the world’s biomes with each class learning about a different region of the world; students transform their classrooms into living models of their habitat with presentations, dioramas, and interactive demonstrations.
We strive to develop the whole child through integrated arts, physical education, and foreign language instruction.  Our students in kindergarten through 8th grade receive weekly instruction in French, music, art, library, and physical education .  In addition, during the winter season all students participate in gymnastics, ice skating, skiing, or snowboarding.
