Monday, April 12, 2010 Happy Easter! We are reminded of our many blessings during this beautiful season of joy and new life!
Holy Week was a peaceful, reflective time for our staff and students, as we prayed the scriptural Rosary, and witnessed a beautiful enactment of the Living Stations by our 8th graders on Holy Thursday. It was especially joyful to begin Easter Monday with a great big "Alleluia" at assembly, and celebrate our first school Mass of the Easter Season later in the week. As promised, here's a look back at the Shelby Noyes Memorial Science Fair, that was held in March. Students in grades 6 - 8 worked hard for weeks, researching, experimenting, and construction their display boards. The top 3 places in each grade were earned by: 8th graders Brigette Rankin (1st), Lucas Prevost (2nd), and (3rd), 7th graders Mark Berryman (1st), Lindsey Kerr (2nd), and Lauren Urie (3rd), and 6th graders Haley Edmondson (1st), Kara Weaver (2nd), and Alex Oddo (3rd). Additionally, Kara Weaver won 2nd place in the 5th/6th grade division earlier in the day at the NEK Regional Science Fair held at Lyndon State College. Congratulations to all!
Our "Sweet Charity" Auction got off to a fabulous start with a gala launch party held on April 10th. Close to 100 people were in attendance for fabulous food and beverages, a spectacular chocolate buffet, a little night music, chatting with friends and family, and of course, bidding on an amazing array of silent auction items. There are too many people to thank, including the auction coordinators and committee headed by Karen Aldredge, our hosts, Jim and Mary O'Reilly, members of our communities, as well as GSCS staff, Board members, families, and friends, who have donated over 200 spectacular items! BUT WAIT... the fun is far from over - catch all of the auction-action, register to bid, tell your friends and family, and be part of our school's efforts to support our students as the "Sweet Charity" Auction continues on-line at: www.gscsauction.com now through May 1st. Many of our students have had a hand in creating a few very special items, available only on line, and "Learning Potential" - the desk created by our own Cynthia DeKett is now available for purchase. Check it all out, and thank you for your support!
Several of our GSCS '08 grads will be confirmed on Monday, April 26th at St. John the Evangelist Church. The evening Confirmation Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Matano, and all are welcome. Please keep our grads, and all Confirmation candidates in your prayers, and give thanks for their deepened spirituality.
Check back for photos of our 7th & 8th grade Shakespeare Festival, to be held on Thursday, April 15th. Students have been preparing dramatic and musical presentations, as well as creating Renaissance-style artwork, scenery and costumes for this very exciting event. Check the "Calendar/Events" page for more details. This is where you'll want "to be!" |
