January News | | Monday, January 4, 2010 Happy New Year and welcome back to school!
Catholic Schools Week begins Sunday, January 31st! Check the Calendar/Events page for information about special events and activities. It is good to be back to school after a beautiful Christmas Season! We are very pleased to begin this new year more than halfway to our $50,000 Annual Appeal goal. Many thanks to the very generous gifts given throughout the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. Our families, staff, School Board, parishioners, and benefactors are helping to give the gift of a Good Shepherd education to over 160 students this year, changing the lives of our young people who may then change the world. We return to Good Shepherd with a month of exciting events and activities ahead.
Winter Sports will begin on Monday, January 11th. It is great that our students may participate in healthy activities throughout this season, making the most of the "winter wonderland" in which we live!
Catholic Schools Week begins on Sunday, January 31st, with our students attending area Masses in uniform, and serving in a number of ministries. Our Good Shepherd community always makes a impressive showing at these Masses, and we are grateful for the support offered by our parishes. Good Shepherd continues to celebrate through Friday, February 5th, with a number of special events. Please check the "Calendar/Events" page for details about each day's activities.
One of the week's highlights will be the annual Community Breakfast, to which we are inviting alumni of St. Gabriel, Mt. Saint Joseph, Notre Dame, Catholic Central, and Good Shepherd schools to join us and share the value of their Catholic school experience with our own students. The first Catholic school in St. Johnsbury opened 135 years ago, and we look forward to continuing our exploration of this rich tradition and history in our area. If you are an alumnus of any of these schools and would like to attend, please call 751-8223 or email jedmondson@gscsvt.org. Also - check us out on Facebook and reconnect with friends!
The GSCS School Board and Development Committee have begun working to organize Good Shepherd's "Sweet Charity" Auction to be held this spring. An elegant "kick-off" event will be held on Saturday, April 10th at the Wildflower Inn in Lyndonville, followed by a 3-week on-line auction through Bidding for Good. Sweet deals, sweet meals, and absolute steals are guaranteed - the excitement is building already! To make a donation or find out more, visit www.gscsvtauction.cmarket.com
To warm you up a little, take a look at these photos of our 6th graders during their recent African Geography Fair. This is learning at its best!
