Who says that November is a quiet month?  Read on...

The whole Good Shepherd family celebrating Veterans Day 2009

Congratulations to these students who acheived Honor Roll status for the first marking quarter of the 2009-10 school year!

Thanks to Good Shepherd students who brought in hundreds of canned and boxed food items to "scare away hunger" on a casual day before Halloween!

      As November begins, we turn our thoughts to the Holy Days and holidays that we celebrate during this late fall season.  November 1st, the Feast of All Saints, and November 2nd, the Feast of All Souls, are days to reflect and prayerfully remember our loved ones who have returned home to God, especially those who have made the journey during this past year.

     On November 11th, we make time to recognize our country's veterans - those men and women who have offered themselves to their fellow Americans through their service to the nation.  We will celebrate our school Mass on Veteran's Day, offering prayers of thanksgiving to those men and women who have served, and those who continue to do so - many from our own communities.  At 10:00, GSCS students and staff will line Main Street in St. Johnsbury to pay respect to all those participating in the Veteran'sDay Parade.  (See update and photos below!)

Students made posters and waved flags on Veterans Day, showing their appreciation and respect for our area veterans.

  Showing their true colors...

     Speaking of giving thanks, our thoughts are turning to the Thanksgiving holiday as well.  Good Shepherd will hold its traditional Thanksgiving Dinner on Tuesday, November 24th, with each class contributing to the meal (check for notices from teachers), and our students and staff gathering to enjoy the feast!  Best wishes to all of you, as you gather with family, friends and loved ones to celebrate and give thanks for the many blessings in your life later that week.

     The Kingdom Challenge was a tremendous success, thanks to race coordinator Kelly Urie, the GSCS School Board, and the outstanding committee members involved in preparation and execution of the event.  There were over 400 participants in the half-marathon and 5K races, including many GSCS staff members, alumni, students, families and friends.  St. Johnsbury and Lyndonville hosted runners from:  Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Wisconsin, and from Quebec, Canada!  Results and photos may be viewed at:  www.thekingdomchallenge.com  Again, many thanks to all who made this event a fun, healthy way to support our school!

     Grandparents Day 2009 will be celebrated on Friday, November 20th, as we welcome our students' grandparents and "significant elders" to our school(s) and church for faith, food, fun and fellowship.  You may find more details on the "Calendar/Events" page of our web site.

     Good Shepherd's Annual Appeal will begin in mid-November, continuing through January, 2010.  After tuition, the Annual Appeal is the most important source of funding for our school, and is a vital means of support.  We maintain an affordable tuition rate, recognizing that it does not cover the actual per pupil cost, and therefore need to conduct this appeal in order to meet our daily operating expenses.  Additionally, with the winter months (and basketball season) fast approaching, heat and electricity costs will increase, widening the "gap" between available funds and necessary expenses.  We will again have a casual day on which we ask our school families to make their contributions to this appeal, and thank you in advance for prayerfully considering how you will support Good Shepherd this year.  We can make the best possible use of gifts when donors consider giving on-line.  This is a quick, easy, secure way to contribute to the Annual Appeal, and eliminates the need for stationary, envelopes, ink, postage, etc.  Many thanks to those of you who choose to utilize this method, found on our web site:  www.goodshepherdschoolvt.org under "Support GSCS" on the home page.  You will also find our Annual Report/"Good News"letter with news, photos, a report of last year's donors, and much more.  Copies are available at school and at each of our parishes.

     Please check back for photos from November events, and mark your December calendar:

     *  Saturday, December 12th - PTG Christmas Bazaar
     *  Monday, December 21st - Christmas Concert
