Monday, May 18, 2009 Meet our new administrators! Please see Mr. Gessner's "Weekly Letter" for all the details... We recently received this email from WSTJ's Mike Cohen: "I am very pleased to tell you that "It's Catholic Schools Week" has won the Top PSA Radio Station Produced commercial in the State of Vermont! Really!" Mike was honored as Best Producer, and GSCS Development Director, Janet Edmondson, was recognized as Writer.
Back in January, a group of students traveled to the WSTJ Radio station, along with Mrs. Edmondson and Mr. Gessner, to record the commercial promoting Catholic Schools Week, and specifically, all that Good Shepherd has to offer. Mike Cohen recorded the voices, added music, edited, ultimately producing the two 30-second spots. They were aired throughout Catholic Schools Week on WSTJ and KIX FM, and obviously were well-received at the Vermont Broadcast Associates' recent awards banquet. Mike commented that the Association members found it a remarkable production, and outstanding use of 30 seconds of air time!

Lauren, Curtis, Mel, Taryn, Jasper, Mrs. Edmondson and Mr. Gessner study their lines in the waiting room, while Christian prepares for his "take" in the studio.
Congratulations to all involved, including student radio personalities: Christian DeKett, Curtis Gingue, Jasper Rankin, Melanie Sayarath, Taryn Tremblay, and Lauren Urie!

GSCS students recently had a casual dress day to raise money for the St. Johnsbury Recreation Department's current Skateboard Park project. 5th grade students Yale Flanagan and Connor McCarthy suggested the event, and are shown here with Principal Bob Gessner, and St. J Recreation Department Director Joe Fox, to whom they presented a check for $153.25.
School News... Congratulations to all students who recently participated in the annual Spring Concert. It was an excellent, and truly heartfelt performance, and very entertaining! PreK - Kindergarten Grades 1,2,3 Grades 4,5,6 Students involved in the "Lift Every Voice" project also gave inspired and uplifting performances of this program on Saturday, May 16th at Good Shepherd, and on Monday, May 18th at Mater Christi School in Burlington. Both the process and product were a tremendous collaborative effort, making use of the students' God-given talents in the areas of art, dance, music and technology. Congratulations to all. Grades 7 & 8
The Convocation held at St. Michael's College in Cochester was an impressive, very joyous event, and a great day of all. During the Mass, concelebrated by Bishop Matano and a dozen priests, several GSCS students were honored to serve in various capacities: Tim Hartwell, altar server, Lucas Robillard, banner bearer, Katrina DeKett, Haley Edmondson, Krysta Gingue, Hannah Jenkins, and Bria Willis, choir members. The assembly was gifted to hear a homily by St. John's own Fr. Schnobrich, who gave students a special "homework" assignment - to give their parents a hug, and thank them for sending them to a Catholic school. Hopefully, your kids have done their homework! All of us at GSCS thank you too. Our students were exceptionally well-behaved and represented our school proudly. Be sure to keep checking the Monthly News for updates and photos, and the Calendar/Events page for year-end happenings.
