April/May | | Monday, April 20, 2009 April and May are busy months - full of new life, new seasons and many special events...
Click below to read the monthly news and check out photos of recent events, including Biomes and Mothers Day Tea.
* Kindergarten students recently held a special Mothers Day Tea, featuring elegant sandwiches and cookies made lovingly with their own hands, as well as tea and lemonade. They also presented their mothers with the gift of a "Bible Story ABC" book, which each student has been working on all year. It was a lovely, festive celebration, enjoyed by all!

* Several Good Shepherd students recently participated in a Digital Photography course, taught by Kim and Gary Colangelo from the UVM Extension program. Kayla Lanfair and Brook Fowler assisted in presenting the course during which the students learned about digital photography as a means of art and communication. They also learned about organization of thoughts and materials, as well as many technical aspects of producing and manipulating the photos. Many thanks to all who taught - what a great opportunity for our students! Be sure to check out their projects on the bulletin board in the front hallway. * In keeping with the "Green" theme this month - Good Shepherd PTG's 11th Annual Rummage Sale will be held a little early - Friday, April 24th - Saturday, April 25th. Check the "Calendar/Events" page for more details and bring some closure to your spring cleaning! Donations may be brought into school beginning on Tuesday, April 21st. Many thanks to the volunteers who make this happen year after year. See you there!
* We have had a number of visitors to our school in the past month - families who are considering (and some who have already chosen) Good Shepherd for thier child(ren). As the good news spreads, our school community is enriched with new students, families, gifts and talents. If you know someone who may be interested in visitng or finding out more about GSCS, please encourage them to contact the school by phone or email, and remind them of our Open House to be held on Thursday, May 21st from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. Thank you!
 * BIOMES! Our students in grades 1 - 8 are working away, researching and transforming their classrooms into various environments - deserts, oceans, forests, grasslands, etc. Check with your child(ren)'s teacher or in the "Parent Place" to find out when you may visit classrooms for this unique learning experience.

 * Remember to mark May 14th on your calendar - the date of our Spring Concert. Students in grades PreK - 8 will perform some of their favorite songs with joy and enthusiasm. Concert Band and Beginner Band will perform as well. Details will follow - all are welcome!
* "Lift Every Voice" - a grant-funded multi-media program will be performed here at GSCS on Saturday, May 16th in the evening. Our 7th and 8th graders have been creating and rehearsing a variety of songs for this program, including chants, spirituals, contemporary songs, and more. The performance includes art, dance, vocal and instrumental music, and is based on the theme of peace, as brought about through faith, using our God-given talents. They will also perform this program at Mater Christi School in Burlington on Monday, May 18th at 6:30 in the evening. Students who are involved have received information about rehearsals and performances, and they've been doing a great job putting it all together.
* First Communion will be celebrated on Sunday, May 3rd, and Confirmation on Tuesday, May 5th. Thank you for keeping our 2nd graders and alumni in your prayers as they receive these sacraments.
* Check back for more news and photos as the weeks keep rolling along...
